What is EthylBloc™ technology?
AgroFresh Inc.'s patented floral quality management system
works naturally with many types of flowers and plants to
keep them fresh after harvest, so that consumers can enjoy
their beauty for longer. It protects cut flowers, potted
flowers, and bedding, nursery and foliage plants from wilting
and fading caused by the damaging effects of naturally-occurring
ethylene. It is used by the floral and nursery industries.
What are the benefits of using it?
EthylBloc technology keeps flowers and plants looking better
for longer by reducing or preventing the unsightly damage
caused by ethylene, such as wilting, leaf browning, color
loss, and
premature dropping of buds, petals and leaves. It can increase
cut flower life by up to 300 percent. Consumers enjoy flowers
and plants that look better and last longer. Meanwhile, floral
suppliers and retailers enjoy more decision making flexibility,
and less loss.
Who uses EthylBloc technology?
EthylBloc technology is used by all segments of the floral
and nursery industries, including growers, shippers, wholesalers,
bouquet makers, mail order houses and retailers. EthylBloc
technology can be introduced at any point, from harvest to
just prior to sale to consumers.
How does it work?
When ethylene-sensitive flowers and plants are exposed to
EthylBloc technology, they are protected from further ethylene
damage.
EthylBloc technology protects flowers and plants from all
sources of ethylene, including from the plant itself and
from other
environmental sources.
How is it used?
EthylBloc technology is used by flower and plant suppliers
to lock in the freshness and beauty of flowers and plants,
whether by the truckload, roomful or boxful. At any point
after harvest, flowers and plants are placed in an enclosed
area
like a truck, storeroom or box, and then a small amount of
EthylBloc technology is misted in the air around the flowers
and plants. It takes 24 hours or less to lock in beauty and
freshness, and then EthylBloc technology disappears.
Is it
safe?
Yes, for everyone – workers, customers and the environment.
EthylBloc’s patented nontoxic technology was approved
for use in the United States by the Environmental Protection
Agency in 1999. Health Canada approved it for use in Canada
in 2007.
How can I get it?
EthylBloc technology is sold to the floral and nursery industries.
Produced by AgroFresh, EthylBloc products are sold and distributed
in the United States and Canada by Floralife®,
Inc.
